Dear Lance, thank you for all the inspiration you have given to many of us. I remember years ago, I always wished Nsync would come tour in SA, just so that I could see you in person and not on a tv screen. Can’t imagine the braveness and courage it took in your pursuit to living your life as the person you are, and not the person others make you out to be.

Lance, you are an inspiration not just to young people but to older men and women as well. It was very brave of you to come out when you did, even though many of us believe you were pressured into it. You took the high road, though, and showed the world that it just doesn’t matter if you’re straight or gay. If you’re talented, you’re talented, and you’ve proven that not just with NSYNC but on Dancing with Stars and Hairspray. I hope you come back to Broadway, because you were FANTASTIC in Hairspray, and many of your fans would love to see you perform live again. Thank you for years of entertainment, and I look forward to seeing your future projects.

In 1996 I started writing a fiction story on-line in which I had Lance gay. Well, if you can’t have gay role-molds sometimes you have to invent them. But even from the Disney concert when Lance said, “I play basketball but I am SO bad at it.” That was me in all my gym classes so I could immediately relate so I guess writing a story about Lance being gay wasn’t that much of a stretch so when Lance came out it was almost a dream come true.
Also I met a lot of wonderful people through that story because I treated NSYNC with respect and it was a possitive story not a soap opera on steriods.(And people liked the idea of Lance being in a gay relationship! most of them were women by the way.) One of the readers surprised me JC’s autograph and one got me a copy of Lance’s book autographed. The one NYSNC concert I went to was when they were here is Minneapolis. I have to smile because it was on Gay Pride weekend. It must be fate!
Since Challenge for the Children, Lance has been out there doing his bit. Through it all Lance has never changed. That IS something to be grateful for. We fans are.

Lance,

I’ve been sitting here for nearly an hour trying to figure out how to put into words, just briefly, what an inspiration you have been in my life. From the earliest days of listening to your music, I remember thinking that I’d bet ANYTHING you were not just a talented singer, but a really good person. You’ve always had the most genuine, caring look in your eyes.

When I heard you had come out, I was all the more inspired. As a member of the GLBT community myself, and an ordained pastor who, as if that isn’t different enough is a paraplegic with an absurd looking service dog, I see every day the need for respectable, inspiring role models for people who feel out of sync. You have been and continue to be that for so many. You’ve inspired me to have a voice for all those who feel lthey don’t fit in, to take a very vocal stand against bullying, and to enjoy life in all its wonder. On the toughest days, I can keep this up because you keep it up and stay so positive. Thank you and never forget how loved and respected you are.
